Welcome to The Sargin Lab
AT THE UNIVERSITY
OF CALGARY
Our lab studies the neural circuits underlying emotional and social behaviours in healthy and diseased states. We employ early life adversity and chronic social isolation paradigms to study the impact of prolonged stress on brain development and function. We use a multidisciplinary approach with a combination of patch clamp electrophysiology, in vivo calcium imaging, optogenetics, histological and behavioural analysis in transgenic mouse models to answer these questions. With these approaches, we seek to ultimately develop novel circuit-based targets for treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases characterized by mood dysregulation.
We are always interested in motivated candidates to join our lab.
